For a 2-bedroom flat along the line — Carcavelos, Parede or São João do Estoril — a full replacement usually comes to between €1,800 and €3,200, with fitting, removal and warranty included. They will — and there are numbers behind it: every model carries declared wind-resistance and air-permeability classes on its CE marking. On a façade facing the bay or Guincho we specify the class accordingly, and the double rubber gasket stops the whistling you know from south-westerly nights. Very exposed façades get noted at the measurement.
For most homes by the coast, PVC — it doesn't corrode in salt air, never needs repainting and insulates better by default. Thermally-broken aluminium earns its place on very large openings or a specific design. We tell you which pays off in your case — and we install both, so the advice isn't self-serving.
Most of the municipality sits in winter climate zone I1, with a maximum Uw of 2.80 W/m²·°C (Decree-Law 101-D/2020 and Portaria 138-I/2021). But the zone is set by altitude, not by municipality: from about 240 m up, around Malveira da Serra and on the slopes of the Sintra hills, zone I2 applies and the limit drops to 2.40. Yes. Replacing the window is the right moment to motorise the shutters — the cable runs through the shutter box that's being worked on anyway, no extra building work. We also fit new insulated shutter boxes; the old ones are often the biggest heat leak in the opening.
